30 mg peptide vial: reconstitution calculator and unit chart

A 30 mg vial holds 30,000 mcg. Reconstituted with 2 mL of liquid it is 15 mg/mL, so each unit on a U-100 syringe holds 150 mcg and a 1 mg dose is 6.67 units. Change the numbers below for your own vial.

Unit chart for a 30 mg vial

Units to draw on a U-100 insulin syringe, by how much liquid was added to the vial.

30 mg vial: concentration and syringe units
Liquid added Concentration mcg per unit 500 mcg 1 mg 2.5 mg
1 mL 30 mg/mL 300 mcg 1.67 units 3.33 units 8.33 units
2 mL 15 mg/mL 150 mcg 3.33 units 6.67 units 16.67 units
3 mL 10 mg/mL 100 mcg 5 units 10 units 25 units
5 mL 6 mg/mL 60 mcg 8.33 units 16.67 units 41.67 units

Results under about 2 units are hard to measure accurately on a syringe, and anything over 100 units will not fit a 1 mL syringe. Both are signs that a different volume of liquid would suit that dose better. That choice belongs to your pharmacist or prescriber.

How many doses are in a 30 mg vial?

DoseDoses per vialAt one dose a dayAt one dose a week
500 mcg 60 60 days 60 weeks
1 mg 30 30 days 30 weeks
2.5 mg 12 12 days 12 weeks

The number of doses depends only on the vial strength and the dose. Adding more or less liquid changes the volume of each dose, not how many there are. A reconstituted vial may reach the end of its usable period before it is empty, so check the label. For other schedules, use the vial duration calculator.

The formula

  1. Concentration: 30 mg ÷ liquid added (mL) = mg per mL.
  2. Volume: dose (mg) ÷ concentration (mg/mL) = mL.
  3. Units: volume (mL) × 100 = units on a U-100 syringe.

Worked through for 1 mg with 2 mL added: 30 ÷ 2 = 15 mg/mL. 1 mg ÷ 15 = 0.07 mL. 0.07 × 100 = 6.67 units.

Questions about a 30 mg vial

How much bacteriostatic water do I add to a 30 mg vial?

There is no single correct amount. The volume you add sets the concentration: 1 mL in a 30 mg vial gives 30 mg/mL, 2 mL gives 15 mg/mL and 3 mL gives 10 mg/mL. More liquid makes each dose a larger volume that is easier to measure. Use the volume on the product label or the one your pharmacist or prescriber gives you.

How many units is 1 mg from a 30 mg vial?

It depends on how much liquid was added. With 1 mL added it is 3.33 units on a U-100 syringe, with 2 mL it is 6.67 units and with 3 mL it is 10 units.

How many doses are in a 30 mg vial?

A 30 mg vial holds 30,000 mcg. That is 60 doses of 500 mcg, 30 doses of 1 mg or 12 doses of 2.5 mg. The amount of liquid added does not change the number of doses.

How many mcg are in a 30 mg vial?

A 30 mg vial contains 30,000 mcg, because 1 mg equals 1,000 mcg.
